Teresa Magbanua

Teresa Magbanua was a Filipina revolutionary leader, a memeber of the Katipunan and one of the most prominent female figures in Philippine history. Born in 1871 in Iloilo, she played a significant role in resisting Spanish colonial rule and later fought against the American occupation in the Philippine–American War and Japan during World War II. Known as the “Joan of Arc of the Visayas,” Magbanua was an expert in military strategy and tactics, organizing and leading Filipino forces in key battles during the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine-American War. Her leadership and courage earned her the respect of both men and women in her community, making her a symbol of strength and patriotism. Teresa Magbanua’s legacy remains an inspiring reminder of the contributions women made in the fight for Philippine independence.
