Gregoria de Jesús, often referred to as the “Lakambini” (Muse) of the Katipunan, was a prominent figure in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule. Born on May 9, 1875, in Caloocan, she became the wife of Andrés Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan. Beyond her symbolic role as Bonifacio’s spouse, Gregoria played an active part in the revolutionary movement, safeguarding important Katipunan documents and organizing secret meetings. She showed immense courage in the face of danger, often risking her life to protect the organization. Following the tragic execution of Bonifacio, she continued her advocacy for freedom and justice, cementing her legacy as a key figure in the struggle for Philippine independence. Her strength, intelligence, and dedication have made her a lasting symbol of resilience and patriotism.
