On Saturday October 12, 2019 Bayani Art travelled down to San Diego, California to celebrate Filipino American History Month. We attended the San Diego’s FilAm Fest: Filipino American Arts & Cultural Festival. The event was held from 10am – 6pm. We were able to launch our BRWNGRLZ x Bayani Art Cordillera Collection at the event and received an overwhelming amount of love and support from the community. We worked directly with Kirin Amiling Macapugay, an Igorot educator and culture keeper to create the Bayani x BRWNGRLZ earrings based on Igorot textiles. Proceeds will benefit the “Igorot Global Organization Scholarship Fund.” We hope through this project, more people will become aware of the beautiful, rich culture and history of the Igorot community. We are looking forward to coming back to San Diego and continuing to build bridges in our community.

“In a time when the world is learning to appreciate indigenous Igorot art and tradition from the cordilleras, I appreciate artist companies like bayani art and BRWNGRLZ who work in partnership with us directly, and who give BACK to the Igorot communities who birthed this culture. My gratitude to all who have supported this project, allowing us to invest in our future generations. This is how we move forward together. —Kirin Gunnawa Amiling Macapugay, ilubo, kalinga and natonin, ifontok.”
