Diwang Kabataan X Bayani Art
“Diwang Kabataan expresses our anger and deep sadness at the Kidapawan Massacre. We condemn the lack of actions of the local government that resulted in the massacre. The actions of the Philippine National Police and the local government are unacceptable and should be held accountable.
As Filipino youth in the US, we recognize how the history of farm workers goes beyond what has taken place in Cotabato. The unfair and unjust treatment of farm workers in the Philippines parallels with the struggles of the Delano Manongs in California. We have not forgotten the tragedies of the Mendiola and Hacienda Luisita Massacres in the Philippines. The farmers still have not received justice.
Our hearts are with the families of the three slain farmers and all the victims of this tragic event. Diwang Kabataan will continue to demand that every person has access to their basic human rights.”
Mission statement: “Diwang Kabataan (DK) is a Filipino youth organization aiming to serve Filipino youth in the Tri City area (Union City, Hayward, Castro Valley, Fremont, Newark, San Leandro and San Lorenzo,CA) .We recognize that Filipinos and Filipino-Americans have a shared culture that has been heavily shaped by history of colonialism as well as resistance. Diwang Kabataan aims to unite all Filipino youth whether they are workers, immigrants, students and/or women. We strive to bring to the forefront the educational work outside of the classroom around issues such as worker’s rights, indigenous peoples struggles, political issues, migrant issues, gentrification impacting Filipino communities etc. We also recognize that the struggle for economic and cultural sovereignty has not ended in the Philippines. Diwang Kabataan actively arouses, organizes and mobilizes for the welfare and rights of the Filipino people towards attainment of genuine freedom and democracy.”
All proceedings will go to the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines to help relieve the Catabato farmers.
