Since the beginning of Bayani Art’s establishment in 2010, the idea of creating a book has always been a goal for our team. Our vision was to create a book that could be a resource for Filipinos to pick up and understand the history of their people. We came to the decision to produce a children’s book series to write in a language that is accessible to all age groups and create art that animates history to life. The first series of books will be on the four bayani: Lapu Lapu, Gabriela Silang, Jose Rizal, and Andres Bonifacio. The series is co-written by Robin Kitana Aquilizan and Aaron Jurell Sarmiento and illustrated by Ponsi Alfonso.

For over ten years, we’ve produced art that tells the history of Philippine heroes and warriors. Through this project we wanted to expand our mission beyond apparel. Many Filipinos don’t get the opportunity to learn about their history. Bayani Books aims to highlight narratives that aren’t often told. We hope that through these books, people can connect themselves, their families, and communities in history.
